In the Airplanes tab, the airplanes to be used in the taxiway intersection simulation can be selected. Airplane selection can be carried out in three ways:
Above the airplane table, a list that includes all recently used and saved groups as defined in the Group Manager is available.
The Browse button, to the right of the Group list, provides access to the Select Object dialog box where objects can be sorted and filtered before selection.
The Select object from drawing button to the right of the Browse for object in library button makes it possible to select an existing AviPLAN Airside Pro 2024 single object or group of objects in the drawing. Only airplanes can be selected for the Fillet sessions. Once selected, the Object box(es) will be populated.
Note: The maximum number of airplanes that can be added to a session is 200, but the calculation time required to undertake an analysis is impacted by the number of selected objects. Accordingly, selecting only critical airplanes after reviewing the Cockpit to main-gear, Main-gear span and Engine span parameters for airplanes in the applicable regulatory category/group is recommended.
Append or Replace
Whenever subsequent selections are made using the Groups method above, a dialog will prompt for confirmation whether to append these additional objects to the existing selection or to replace those already added.
When airplanes are selected using any of the above methods, they will be added to the selection table in the lower portion of the Airplanes tab.
Remove airplane
Remove airplane from session using the Remove airplane button.
Excluded Entries/Routes
If a Route filter is applied, airplanes may not be permitted to use a certain route(s) and they may be excluded from calculations accordingly. Further, if an airplane is in a Code/Group greater than the selected taxiway category, or which cannot successfully follow the route, it will be excluded from calculations accordingly.
As soon as at least one Route has been established and one entry criteria-compliant airplane has been added¹, the Calculate button will be enabled. After clicking Calculate, the tool will analyze the critical airplanes' movements through the intersection using the cockpit over centerline² method, as demanded by ICAO, EASA and FAA. Once the calculation process is finalized, the calculated fillet and shoulder lines are displayed in the intersection and the Fillet Results dialog will be updated. The calculated fillet and shoulder lines, together with a range of other elements, can be controlled using the Session Manager.
Note¹: [FAA only] The airplanes selected in the Airplanes tab do not contribute in any way to Taxiway, calculated edge or Shoulder, calculated edge. See Fillet Results for more information. Accordingly, airplanes do not need to be added to the Airplanes for the Calculate button to be enabled.
Note²: If an airplane's nose gear is forward of its cockpit, i.e. the longest effective wheelbase is that of the nose to main gear, AviPLAN Airside Pro will instead apply the nose gear over centerline method for that particular airplane. Applicable airplanes are noted in Fillet Results and reports.
