Creating a Sign
Using Sign Creation Features > Creating a Sign

The following procedure describes how to create a simple sign containing a text string and an arrow, and to place a drawing sheet and a report.

Basic Steps For Creating a Sign

  1. Use the Panel Styles tool to set the desired panel style.
  2. Use the Place New Panel tool to specify the desired sign name and set other parameters and then place the sign panel in the drawing.
  3. Use the Place Highway Text tool to specify the desired text style, type the desired text, and then place the text in the sign panel.
  4. Use the Place Arrow tool to select the desired arrow, specify the desired arrow parameters, and then place the arrow in the sign panel.
  5. Use the Place Drawing Sheet tool to create a drawing sheet.
  6. Use the Place Report tool to create a report.

You can also use custom templates to create new signs. For information on creating custom templates and using them for new signs, see Create Template From SignCreate Sign From Template.

For information on saving user created signs, see Customizing GuideSIGN Plus -> Saving User Created Content.

Auto Update Panel, Auto Update Report, and Auto Place Dimensions

If you select the Auto update panel, Auto update report, and Auto place dimensions check boxes in Program Settings' Locks - Design Category dialog box, the sign panel, report, and dimensions will be updated each time a new object is placed or an existing object is moved using the Move Single Object or Move Multiple Objects tools. Otherwise, you can update the panels, reports, and dimensions manually by using the Update Existing PanelPlace Report, and Place Dimensions tools.

Changing Dimension Parameters

To change dimension parameters without placing dimensions, click Place Dimensions, click the View/Edit Settings button in the Place Dimensions dialog box, change the parameters in the Dimensions Settings dialog box, click OK, and then close the Place Dimensions dialog box.

Overriding Automatic Sizing and Spacing

Object snap spacing and sizes for text, arrows, and shields are automatically set from parameters stored with the panel style in the Panel Styles' Spacing Category. However, these values can be overridden at the time objects are being placed (see Place Object and Move Object: Manual Spacing).
