The Edit view is displayed when a vehicle template or library object has been selected and opened. The characteristics of the selected parametric vehicle template can be modified (where applicable) in order to create the desired vehicle, with correct dimensions, steering behavior and so on.

    Vehicle Characteristics

On the left side of the dialog, the Vehicle Characteristics pane lists all of the available options for the selected vehicle type, with the nodes in the tree structure categorizing the different characteristics that can be defined for the given object. For example, in the Main dimensions node, dimensions such as wheelbase, width and height can be defined.

    General

The Type field is listed under the General node in the Vehicle Characteristics pane. This is the only mandatory field in Vehicle Editor and a user-defined vehicle cannot be saved before a selection has been made from this list. The Type defined here reflects in the Type column in the Select Object dialog. Type is used as a filter when selecting objects in Service Editor. Any vehicles that do not have a Type can be reopened to make this selection.

    Vehicle combinations

To create a vehicle combination (e.g. a truck-trailer combination or baggage train), select the applicable template under Connect Template or browse the object library under Connect Object from Library. Both options are located at the bottom of the Vehicle Characteristics pane, where available/applicable.

    Important parameters

When it comes to the maneuverability of the vehicle, the content of the Main dimensions and Steering nodes are most important. The Steering node for the Truck contains the parameters as shown in the dialog hereafter. The turning radius of the vehicle can be specified in various ways. Outer turning radius and Outer wheel turning radius are most commonly used. In vehicle specification sheets these are often not mentioned as radius but as circle diameter, respectively Turning circle between walls and Turning circle between curbs.

    Vehicle Preview

On the right side of the dialog, the Vehicle Preview window displays a preview of the vehicle, with the selected dimensions indicated in red.

Modify the characteristics as desired and then save the vehicle using the Save icon in the Quick Access toolbar.
