    Drawing Units / Scale
    In This Topic

Built into GuideSIGN Markings is the ability to draw to metres, feet, millimetres, inches or any other drawing unit. AutoCAD has in built units (use the UNITS command) and Microstation has a design file settings for working units. GuideSIGN Markings reads this and draws in those units. By default, GuideSIGN Markings is set to use metres or feet depending on the territory when initialized, or drawing template file selected, if no other unit is set.

The units are saved within any drawings so GuideSIGN Markings can chop and change depending on the open drawing. The units can therefore be specified within the DWT template or DGN seed used when creating a new drawing.

    Important

You should draw all GuideSIGN Markings drawings at real life scale (1:1). Roads should therefore measure, say, 9 units (metres) from side to side (or 40 drawing units if in feet).

You do not need to worry further about the scale of the paper drawing you are going to produce, until you wish to actually create the plot output. At this time, you will choose any scale for the printout drawing as part of the plot command or the viewport scaling.
