On entering DEV, the layers which you see are completely altered. The default settings for what you can see are contained in the files DEVLAY.ON and KTSDEVFW.DAT. Users can amend these files to alter the layers seen by default, the layers are presented in a dialog on entering DEV so that the defaults can be changed or adjusted every time you enter 3D viewing. The first file contains straight forward layer names which will be turned on, the second file is used by the new system engine to change representations and styles on entering 3D viewing.

Users can still use standard AutoCAD layer switching tools to alter the display.
