    Creating User-Defined Sign Libraries
    In This Topic

To make use of the Insert User-Defined Sign tool in Create Sign Assembly, you are advised to use GuideSIGN's Create Sign Library tool to add signs to user-defined sign libraries (see Create Sign Library).

Alternatively, you can create user-defined sign libraries for use in sign planning features by manually adding signs to library files. The process of creating user-defined sign libraries depends on the CAD platform you are using.

    AutoCAD

User-defined sign libraries are AutoCAD drawing files with the .dwg extension containing only block definitions and no visible entities.

To Add an Object to an AutoCAD Library:

    1. Create a new sign in a new drawing file with the origin at 0,0.

Note: Do not include dimensions, notes, title block sheets, etc. that you do not want placed with the sign in sign assemblies.

    1. Save the file with the desired new sign name.
    2. Close the drawing file.
    3. Create a new library file or open an existing library file to which you want to add the sign.
    4. Type 'Insert', and then press ENTER. The Insert dialog box displays.
    5. In the Name box, type the name of the sign, or navigate to it using the Browse button.
    6. Ensure that the Specify On-screen check box is selected, and then click OK.
    7. Press ESC to have the object added to the drawing block table without placing an insert element in the drawing.
    8. Save and close the library file.

    MicroStation

User-defined sign libraries are MicroStation cell libraries that are modified using the MicroStation’s cell library functions.

To Add an Object to a MicroStation Library:

    1. Create a new sign.
    2. Create a new cell library file or attach an existing cell library file.
    3. Add the new sign to the cell library file.
    4. Compress, and then detach the cell library file.
